주제 : Who has had the most positive influence on your life?

 While coming into contact with various lectures and news, we are influenced by a variety of people from our family members to the celebrities and world leaders. I have also been affected by those, but there is one man in my life who has had a profound influence on my beliefs and values. It is the former president Noh Mu Hyeon, who used to work as a human right lawyer. When people talk about him, they mostly focus on his liberal ideas and his contribution during his presidency but I would like to point out his devotion as a human right lawyer.

My parents once recommended me a movie titled “The Attorney” a couple of years ago. I was quite shocked that the events that I thought were just fictional made into movies were actually based on “Burim affairs” that happened during the Fifth Republic. And I was much more impressed that it was Noh Mu Hyeon that carried the ball when the tragedy hit the nation hard.

I was the kind of a person who cares more about myself than others. I always wanted to get ahead of others and to be better than others. I used to think that that this is the way the world goes around. But when he told us to “always take priority over other people and “never pursuit own goal blindly but rather do together”, I came to overcome my bias that I once thought was a virtue. His saying echoed and led me to think about altruism and human right. There are still a lot of people like Noh Mu Hyeon who stand on the side of the weak trying to make their lives better. But it is also true that there are more social problems we have to deal with as the world has been changing drastically. When I came to know the life of Noh Mu Hyeon as a human right lawyer, I feel that I should be a person to give help rather than just feel sympathy and forget about it a moment later. There is a saying “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony”. I might have been a person of thought and words, but I think that the “lawyer” Noh Mu Hyeon give me last piece to fit into myself, the “action”.
